Greenbelt Park, a national park campground inside the Beltway

This forest was meant to be part of the belt of open land wrapped around the planned town, and housing was proposed for it at one point. In 1950 it was set aside as parkland instead and the National Park Service has run it ever since. Its campground sits roughly ten miles from downtown Washington and just inside the Capital Beltway, which makes it one of very few places you can pitch a tent without leaving the ring road.
