Dalworthington Gardens is laid out as a New Deal homestead colony
1934
Dalworthington Gardens, Texas
The federal Subsistence Homesteads Division built this colony in 1934 on the theory that a family could hold a part time factory job and feed itself from a garden plot. It was one of five such projects in Texas, and Eleanor Roosevelt pushed for this particular patch of ground after seeing it on a visit to Fort Worth. The name is stitched together from Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington. It is still a separate city of about 2,300 people with Arlington on every side.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
