Shepton, the general store town that Plano swallowed
1890
Plano, Texas

Joseph W. Shepard opened a general store on this prairie around 1890 and the settlement took a shortened version of his name. Shepton kept a post office from 1894 to 1903, then steadily lost its residents to Plano a few miles east. Plano's growth absorbed the last of the townsite by the 1980s and only a high school still carries the name.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
