Shawsheen Village, a wool company builds its own town

William Wood of the American Woolen Company built an entire corporate village here in the early 1920s, absorbing the older Frye Village into it. It came complete with a railroad station, shops, office buildings, factories and blocks of housing assigned by rank within the company. Wood ran the same firm whose Lawrence workers had walked out in 1912.
