Sewickley Heights, where Pittsburgh steel money built its estates
1902
Sewickley Heights, PA
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
When the Allegheny Country Club moved out here from Allegheny City in 1902 and laid the first eighteen hole course in western Pennsylvania, the hilltop filled with summer estates running to hundreds of acres each. Fewer than nine hundred people live in the borough today and it remains one of the wealthiest municipalities in the United States. Most of the great houses are gone. The road pattern they left is still there.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
