Riverview Branch Library, the Carnegie library built for the West Side flats

This Beaux Arts branch opened in 1916 for the West Side, the low ground across the river where Jewish, Mexican, Lebanese and Eastern European immigrants landed first and where the Mississippi flooded regularly. It was one of only three Carnegie libraries built in Saint Paul and among the last funded anywhere by the Carnegie money. The design was an early job for city architect Charles A. Hausler. The flats below were cleared for an industrial park in the early 1960s, and the library outlasted them.
