Ridgewood Reservoir, the water supply that let Brooklyn become a city
1858

Built between 1856 and 1858 on the moraine above East New York, the reservoir held water piped from ponds far out on Long Island and gave Brooklyn its first dependable public supply while it was still an independent city and one of the largest in the country. The Catskill and Delaware systems made it unnecessary and it went out of service in 1959. Its three empty basins have since grown over into woods and freshwater marsh inside a city park.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
