Renner, where the Texas Research Foundation rebuilt the blackland soil

Renner was a farming community on the Cotton Belt line with a post office from 1888. In 1944 the nonprofit Texas Research Foundation set up here, eventually running twenty laboratories and more than 400 acres of test fields to breed better grain sorghum, hybrid white corn, soybeans and pasture grasses for worn-out blackland farms. The foundation was wound up in 1972 and its land was split between Texas A&M and the University of Texas, and Dallas annexed the community itself.
