Red Oak was called Possum Trot
1849
Red Oak, Texas
James E. Patton and his family settled on Red Oak Creek in 1844, and the place that grew there went by Possum Trot for the animals in the bottoms. When Ellis County was organised in 1849 the settlement took the creek's name instead. It stayed a farm town for a century and then the Dallas suburbs arrived: 14,222 people in 2020 and roughly 20,000 by 2025.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
