1905

The cemetery opened in 1905 on old Centinela ranch land and ended up holding a large share of Black American music. Ella Fitzgerald is entombed in the Sunset Mission Mausoleum, her crypt marked with a single bar of music, and Ray Charles and Etta James are buried in the same grounds. Sugar Ray Robinson lies in the Pinecrest section above the lake.
