Cypress Hills Cemetery, where Jackie Robinson and Mae West are buried
1848

Chartered in 1848, this was the first non sectarian cemetery organized on the Brooklyn and Queens line, part of the wave of rural burial grounds that moved the dead out of crowded Manhattan churchyards. Jackie Robinson lies here. So do Mae West, brought back from Hollywood to the family crypt in 1980, and the painter Piet Mondrian, who died in New York in 1944. The parkway that cuts the 225 acres in half was renamed for Robinson in 1997.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
