Split off in 1834 from Rancho Los Nietos, one of the first Spanish grants in Alta California, this ranch ran to more than 28,000 acres. Its land is now Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and parts of Seal Beach, Cypress, Stanton and Garden Grove. The adobe house, barns and gardens survive on a hilltop as a public museum.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
