Willowbrook is named for the willows on Rancho Tajauta

The land here belonged to Rancho Tajauta, a Mexican grant of about 4,500 acres made in 1843, and a lone willow near what is now 125th Street served as one of its boundary markers. Subdividers filed the first tracts in the 1890s and recorded the Willowbrook Tract with the county in 1903, taking the name from the willows that grew around the local springs. More than a century later it is still unincorporated, governed directly by Los Angeles County rather than a city hall of its own.
