Radcliffe College and the non-merger merger

Radcliffe opened in 1879 as the way women could be taught by Harvard's faculty without being admitted to Harvard, and became one of the Seven Sisters. From 1963 its undergraduates got a joint diploma, and in 1977 the two institutions signed what everyone called the non-merger merger. The absorption was only finished in 1999, when Radcliffe Yard became an institute for advanced study.
