Prince George's Plaza, the Maryland suburbs' first shopping mall
1959
Hyattsville, Maryland
Hecht's opened here in November 1958 and twenty eight more shops followed in March 1959, on a fifty six acre tract six miles from the Capitol. For its first eighteen years it was an open air strip of storefronts and shoppers walked between them in whatever weather the day supplied. A roof went on in 1977, and the place was renamed The Mall at Prince George's after a renovation in 2004.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
