Potomac Yard, one of the busiest rail yards on the East Coast
1906
Potomac Yard, Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia

Opened in 1906 as the interchange point where northern and southern railroads swapped freight, the yard sorted thousands of cars a day and drew thousands of workers who settled in Del Ray and St Elmo next door. The tracks were pulled up in the 1990s. Amazon put part of its second headquarters on the site, and a Metro station opened there in 2023.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
