Palmer Woods, 297 houses laid out on a senator's woodlot
1913

Senator Thomas Palmer died in 1913 and a developer bought the wooded piece of his estate, hiring the landscape architect Ossian Cole Simonds to run fourteen curving avenues through it instead of a grid. Roughly 297 houses went up across 188 acres, among them a 62 room Tudor house the Fisher brothers built in 1925 and handed to the Bishop of Detroit. Frank Lloyd Wright's only Detroit house sits at the southern edge, finished in 1956 and built from six thousand patterned concrete blocks.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
