Palmer Park and the apartment buildings the auto money paid for

Senator Thomas Palmer gave the city the parkland and meant the rest of his estate to become housing, then died in 1913 before it happened. More than forty apartment buildings went up here instead, most of them in the 1920s and 1930s, five and six storeys in Moorish, Venetian, Spanish Colonial, Tudor and Art Deco dress. It is the densest run of ornate apartment design in Michigan and was listed on the National Register in 1983.
