Old McKendree Chapel, the oldest Protestant church west of the river

A hewn log Methodist meeting house put up in 1819 and still standing on its original ground, which makes it the oldest Protestant church building west of the Mississippi. Camp meetings ran here for decades, drawing people who slept in wagons for a week at a time. It is plain to the point of severity inside, benches and a pulpit and nothing else, which is the point.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
