Oakhurst, the town Decatur swallowed
1910
Oakhurst, Decatur, Georgia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Oakhurst grew along the trolley line laid between Atlanta and Decatur in 1892 and incorporated as its own city in 1910 with roughly a hundred residents. Decatur annexed it in pieces, finishing the job by 1916. Shortly afterwards the Oakhurst city hall and schoolhouse burned with every town record inside, which is why so little is known about how the place actually governed itself.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
