Del Ray, St Elmo, Mount Ida and Hume were laid out from 1894 on their own street grid, tilted away from Old Town's, and incorporated themselves as the town of Potomac in 1908. Government clerks and Potomac Yard railroad workers filled the houses. Alexandria annexed the whole town in 1930 and it stopped existing, though the grid still shows where the boundary was.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
