North DeKalb Mall, metro Atlanta's first fully enclosed mall
1965
Lawrenceville Highway, DeKalb County, Georgia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
It opened on 29 July 1965 with fifty four stores under one roof, anchored by Rich's and a Woolworth counter, and was the first fully enclosed shopping mall in metro Atlanta. Trade drifted to newer centres further out and the pandemic finished it, closing the mall in 2020 and the outparcels by 2023. Demolition wrapped up in the summer of 2024, and a mixed use development called Lulah Hills is going up on the ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
