Newark Schools Stadium, where Jesse Owens was beaten
1925
Newark Schools Stadium, North Ward, Newark, New Jersey
The city put up a concrete horseshoe for its high schools in 1925 that held 25,000 people, and it drew far more than school games. The Negro League Newark Stars played there in 1926, the National Women's Olympic Trials were held in it in 1928, and the NFL's Newark Tornadoes used it in 1930. Jesse Owens ran there and lost to the New Jersey sprinter Eulace Peacock. The old bowl was condemned in 2006 and a 5,600 seat ground replaced it in 2011.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
