Downing Stadium, from Jesse Owens to Pelé
1936
Randalls Island, New York
The 22,000 seat stadium opened on July 11, 1936 with the Olympic trials, where Jesse Owens won in front of about 15,000 people weeks before the Berlin Games. On June 15, 1975 Pelé played his first match for the New York Cosmos on the same field, which had been spray painted green for the television cameras because the grass was gone. It was demolished in 2002 and Icahn Stadium stands on the site.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
