My Father's Place, a bowling alley that became the island's rock club

The Roslyn Bowl was going under, so its owner started booking bands into the lanes, and in 1971 it reopened under a name his son suggested. The promoter Michael Epstein refused to put cover bands on the stage, which meant unknowns got it instead: Springsteen, Tom Petty, the Police, Madonna, Aerosmith and Black Flag all played here early, as did Andy Kaufman and Eddie Murphy. It ran roughly six thousand shows before closing in May 1987.
