A bar on a fading boardwalk that became the room where Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny worked out a whole sound, the E Street Band half-formed on its stage on the nights Bruce turned up unannounced to sit in. His first record was named for the town. The club has closed and reopened more than once. The boardwalk it sits on came back partly because of what happened inside it.
