Speak in Tongues runs a thousand shows out of a rented storefront on Lorain
1994
Cleveland, Ohio
Dave Petrovich and Shelby Bell leased the ground floor and basement of 4311 Lorain Avenue in 1994 and ran it as a collective, with people living in the building and booking whoever came through. Hardcore, thrash and experimental jazz all played the same room, and touring bands including Modest Mouse, Jimmy Eat World and Alkaline Trio passed through on the way up. It closed on the last day of 2001 after roughly a thousand shows in seven years.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
