Miami-Dade bought its Redland airstrip from farmers
1963
Redland, Florida
The county aviation department bought this field from a group of farmers in 1963 and has run it as a public general aviation airport ever since. It sits about five miles northwest of downtown Homestead, surrounded by the nursery and grove country of the Redland. More than five million dollars went into lighting, signage and hangars after Hurricane Andrew, and the county added Miami to its name in December 2014.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
