John F. Long launched Maryvale in 1955 and named it for his wife Mary, after studying how Levittown had been mass produced. He prefabricated roof trusses, wall sections and cabinets and assembled them on site, finishing about eight houses a day and selling homes for around 8,000 dollars. More than 30,000 of them went up with schools and shopping laid in, and Maryvale is now the largest of the Phoenix urban villages at over 200,000 people.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
