Boulder Hill, the Fox Valley's answer to Levittown

Boulder Hill, Illinois
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Don L. Dise and his investors bought 716 acres of the Boulder Hill stock farm between Oswego and Montgomery in 1955 and started selling houses the following year, explicitly copying what William Levitt was doing in New York and Pennsylvania. Dise converted a dairy barn on the land into a community playhouse with a revolving stage. Boulder Hill was never annexed by any town and is now one of the largest unincorporated communities in Illinois.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
