Ford handed the land to the Ford Foundation, which laid out a subdivision of Colonial Revival houses, duplexes, apartments and a shopping centre around open commons and curving streets. Construction started in 1939, aimed at company executives and plant workers alike. The district went on the National Register in 2015.
