Mad Anthony Wayne's bones were boiled here

Wayne died of gout at the fort here in December 1796 and was buried at the foot of the flagpole. Thirteen years later his son came to take him home to Radnor and found the cold had preserved the body far too well for a cart journey, so a doctor dismembered it and boiled the flesh off the bones. The bones went east in trunks. Everything else was put back in the original grave. He therefore has two graves, and the story in Pennsylvania is that pieces fell off the wagon along the way.
