Lynbrook, named by reversing Brooklyn
1894
Lynbrook, New York

The settlement was called Pearsall's Corners after a general store that served the stagecoach run out of the city. Enough of the new arrivals had come from Brooklyn that in April 1894 a referendum renamed the place by swapping the two syllables of their old home, a coinage usually credited to the railroad station master. Residents went on calling it Pearsall for years, and the village of Lynbrook was not incorporated until 1911.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
