Leonidas Polk is killed by a shell on Pine Mountain
1864
Cobb County, Georgia
Pine Mountain is a wooded knob near Kennesaw that the Confederates held as a forward outpost in June 1864, about a mile and a quarter out in front of Joseph Johnston's entrenched line. On 14 June, Lieutenant General Leonidas Polk was standing on it with Johnston and William Hardee studying the Union positions when a Federal three inch solid shot hit him in the left arm and went through his body. Polk had been an Episcopal bishop before the war and was commanding a corps in the Army of Tennessee when he was killed.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
