Lee College opens to teach the refinery towns
1934
Baytown, Texas
Goose Creek school district voters authorised a junior college on February 24, 1934, so that children of oilfield and refinery families could get two more years of schooling without leaving the bay. Classes opened that September for 177 students inside the local high school, with four full time teachers. The college got a campus of its own in 1951.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
