Kennywood, a trolley park that became a National Historic Landmark
1898
West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The park opened on 30 May 1898 at the end of the Mellon family's Monongahela Street Railway, built to give the streetcars somewhere to carry people on a Sunday. Mill families from Homestead, Duquesne and Braddock made it the valley's day out. Along with Rye Playland it is one of only two amusement parks in the United States designated a National Historic Landmark, and rides dating to the early 1900s are still running.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
