Chevy Chase Lake, the trolley park built to sell houses
Chevy Chase, Maryland
The Chevy Chase Land Company dammed Coquelin Run in 1892 to make a lake and power the streetcar line running out from Washington, then opened an amusement park beside it in 1894 to give people a reason to ride the line. The park ran until about 1936. The neighbourhood kept the name long after the lake and the rides were gone.
