Jumbo's was the first white-owned Miami restaurant to serve and hire Black customers
1955
Little River, Miami, Florida
It started as Jumbo Frank's before a Pennsylvania family bought it and renamed it. In the late 1960s the owners integrated both the dining room and the payroll, which they claimed made it the first white-owned restaurant in Miami to do either. Fried chicken, shrimp and conch kept it going for close to sixty years until it closed in July 2014.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
