John Paul Jones Park and its twenty inch Rodman gun
1900
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

Fort Hamilton test fired a new twenty inch Rodman gun in 1864, a fifty eight ton piece that threw a shot weighing 1,080 pounds. Only three of them were ever cast, and the Army presented this one to the park in 1900, which is why Bay Ridge calls the place Cannonball Park. The obelisk standing beside it is the Dover Patrol Monument of 1931, one of three identical shafts, the others at Dover in England and Cap Blanc Nez in France.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
