Hollywood station, the Brookfield Zoo stop a land salesman built in 1893
1893
Brookfield, Illinois
Samuel Eberly Gross, a Chicago lawyer turned real estate developer, put this stop on the Burlington line in 1893 to sell house lots he had carved out of farms and woods on both sides of the tracks. Most of those lots later became the village of Brookfield. Today it is the station people use for Brookfield Zoo, with an unstaffed shelter and about 120 riders on a weekday.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
