Hollis station and the railroad that made eastern Queens
1885

Hollis was farmland until developers cut it into lots in the 1880s and the Long Island Rail Road put a stop here, which is the exact sequence that produced most of eastern Queens. The train made a daily commute to Manhattan possible and the houses followed the timetable. The platform at 193rd Street and Woodhull Avenue is still in service, though only Hempstead Branch trains bother to stop.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
