Gulph Mills, the six days before Valley Forge
1777
Gulph Mills, Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The Continental Army camped in the hills at Gulph Mills and Rebel Hill from 12 to 19 December 1777, having lost at Brandywine, Paoli and Germantown and watched the British take Philadelphia. On the morning of 19 December the army marched out past the Hanging Rock and on to Valley Forge. The stop tends to be skipped over entirely, sitting as it does between the battles of that autumn and the winter everyone remembers.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
