Glenville, a village annexed and then remade twice

Glenville was founded as an independent village in 1870 and included the lakefront that broke away as Bratenahl before Cleveland annexed the rest in 1904. For the next fifty years it was the centre of Jewish Cleveland, at its peak more than ninety percent Jewish. Those families moved to the eastern suburbs through the 1950s and Glenville became a Black neighbourhood, which it remains.
