Bratenahl leaves Glenville and keeps the lakefront
1903
Bratenahl, Ohio
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
This strip of shoreline was part of the village of Glenville until it incorporated separately in 1903, a year before Cleveland annexed everything around it. The result is a village of about 1,400 people, bordered by the city on three sides and Lake Erie on the fourth, holding the shore that Cleveland never got. It is one of the oldest of Cleveland's streetcar suburbs and by some distance the wealthiest per head.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
