Fort Banks ran the harbor defense of Boston in the Second World War

Fort Banks was an Endicott period Coast Artillery post built to keep enemy ships out of Boston Harbor, and its mortar battery is on the National Register. In the Second World War it became the Harbor Defense Command Post for the whole of Boston and filled with temporary buildings. Its campus like layout is why it reads more like a college than a gun battery from the street.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
