Fort McHenry and the anthem

Francis Scott Key watched twenty-five hours of British bombardment from a truce ship and wrote a poem when he saw the flag still up at dawn. He set it to a London drinking song. It did not become the national anthem until 1931. The garrison flag was 30 by 42 feet, sewn by a Baltimore widow.
