The Army threw up this stockade on the south side of Moultrie Creek in August 1837, one of a ring of posts screening St. Augustine during the Second Seminole War. On 21 October, about a mile south of here, Osceola came in for talks carrying a white flag and General Thomas Jesup had him and everyone with him taken prisoner anyway. They were marched into the Castillo, and Osceola died at Fort Moultrie in South Carolina four months later. The seizure was condemned in the newspapers of the day as a breach of the rules of war.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
