Kingsbridge Armory, probably the largest armory in the world

The Eighth Coast Defense Command moved up from Manhattan into this brick fortress on Jerome Avenue in 1917. Its drill hall is so large that the building is generally described as the biggest armory anywhere, and over the years it has held exhibitions, boxing cards and film shoots. The Guard left long ago, and one reuse plan after another has died, most publicly a shopping mall the City Council voted down in 2009.
