Forest Park station, the end of the line Chicago moved into an expressway median
1958
Des Plaines Avenue, Forest Park, Illinois
The Garfield Park elevated had run out to Des Plaines Avenue since 1905, and cutting the Congress Street Expressway through the West Side meant tearing the whole line down. Chicago rebuilt it in the middle of the new road instead, and trains started running in the median in June 1958 with this stop as the western end. Forest Park is one of the few stations on the branch that stayed out of the ditch, sitting a few hundred feet north of the traffic. It was called Des Plaines until 1994.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
