Ford Airport, where American airline travel was worked out
1924
Dearborn, Michigan
Ford laid out a 360 acre airfield here in 1924 and had Albert Kahn design its buildings. The first American passenger terminal, the first concrete runways, the first scheduled passenger service and the first contracted airmail all happened on this ground, and the layout shaped airports built afterwards. The field closed in 1947 and the site is now Ford's Dearborn Proving Ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
